Strong partnership working between Lancaster BID and Lancaster City Council will pay off later this month when an extensive planting scheme is implemented on Church Street and parts of North Road.
Stainless steel planters will be installed at several locations along the street containing an innovative mix of permanent and annual planting. This will be followed by bespoke bunting overhead to turn the street into a real focal point and encourage increased footfall.
Work is also already underway to identify further locations to deliver further phases later in the year. This will extend the scheme across the city centre to make the whole city centre more attractive and welcoming for visitors, residents and workers.
Rachael Wilkinson, Lancaster BID Manager, said “Church Street businesses are already excited to hear about our plans for innovative planting to green the city centre. We anticipate a boost in footfall as Church Street becomes a more attractive location. Further phases are already being planned to expand this into a city wide initiative.”
Regular maintenance will be key to the success of this scheme and will be assured through the strong partnership with Lancaster City Council. Anyone who spots any damage to the planting or any other issues in the city centre is encouraged to contact Lancaster BID to ensure it can be quickly put right.
