Welcome from New BID Chair

Lancaster BID is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Management Board Chair, Nick Wilkinson. Read on for a few short words of introduction from Nick…

Given my long standing connections with Lancaster City Centre it was a great honour to be asked to be chair of our Business Improvement District (BID). I’m a local guy, born in Kendal, and raised in Brookhouse. I’ve spent a number of years working in London but came home about 10 years ago to work in the family business.

Lancaster BID has achieved many things since its creation over 6 years ago. There are some great local events which have been developed and managed by BID. These include Winter in the City, Dino Day and of course the Festa Italia, which I very much enjoyed on Sunday. All these events wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of the BID staff team and the local business leaders who volunteer their time to help oversee the activities of the BID.

We cannot ignore the fact that nationally the High Street, and late night economy are going through fundamental changes, and Lancaster is no exception to this. However I am optimistic that Lancaster is uniquely positioned to deal with these challenges. We are a heritage, university city overflowing with history. Our compact yet well serviced city centre has many unique offerings which are all within walking distance of each other and, of course, Lancaster’s superb geographic location with the Lake District and Morecambe Bay (yes, and, hopefully… Eden!) on the door step. Our local businesses are rising to meet the challenge and our role at BID is to support them to achieve this.

On behalf of the whole of BID I do want to thank our two previous chairs, Paul Cusimano and Susan Rutherford, for all the hard work that they have put in and for the achievements that they both accomplished during their time with BID.

Best wishes,

Nick
