Radios for PCSOs

4th September 2020

Thanks to strong partnership working the PCSOs working in Lancaster city centre are now equipped with brand new radios. Lancaster BID, Castlegate Security and Lanpac have each funded a radio to ensure the PCSOs can remain in easy regular contact with stores and security staff throughout the city centre.

The Lancaster BID Warden is also equipped with a radio to ensure easy communication and facilitate a faster joint response to any incidents reported whilst on duty.

The radio network is used by St Nics Arcades and Marketgate Shopping Centre, as well as security and shop floor staff at a number of businesses throughout the city centre. This facilitates real time sharing of information about any incidents and allows businesses to be more alert to reports of shoplifting and other antisocial behaviour.

The new radios and improved partnership working form a key part of the Lancaster BID priority of creating a safe and secure city centre. The Lancaster BID Warden, Simon Merrett, has been busy getting to know businesses throughout the city and can regularly be seen out and about on his highly visible patrols.

To facilitate greater levels of information sharing between businesses, Lancaster BID is actively developing a Shopwatch scheme in the city centre. To find out more about how your premises can get involved drop an email to Tony Johnson at [email protected].

Lancaster BID is also keen to encourage more businesses to own radios to extend the reach and benefits of the community radio channel. Contact the BID office on 01524 590650 or Tony to enquire about a radio for your business.
