National Lockdown Measures

3rd November 2020

We are sure that you will all be aware of the government announcement that a four week national lockdown across England will commence on Thursday 4th November. This will clearly have a significant impact on the majority of businesses with non essential businesses being required to close their doors and the public urged to stay at home.

CLICK HERE for full details of the measures which will be in force and a summary of the support available.

Lancaster BID would like to highlight some key points which we hope will be useful to some of the city centre retailers to help you through this difficult period.

  • The Furlough Scheme has been extended to 2nd December 2020 to enable any staff to be placed fully or partly on furlough leave and receive 80% of salary for hours not worked. The Government will cover the full 80% salary cost up to a maximum of £2,500 per month with the employer contributing only the NI and Pension contributions. All staff are eligible, even if they have not been placed on furlough previously.
  • Hospitality businesses may continue to provide a takeaway service (excluding alcohol) and non essential shops are permitted to continue trading through either deliveries or a click and collect service.

If you have any questions relating to lockdown measures please contact [email protected] and we will do our best to assist you.

We will continue to keep you informed of any further guidance including details of financial support for businesses as soon as it is available.
