Lancaster Festa Italia- Mamma Mia, It's This Weekend!
6th September 2018
Mama Mia! How can this be? Lancaster looks just like Italy!
Ciao! Lancaster Festa Italia is coming to Lancaster on Sunday 9th September, and bringing with it a whole host of Italian themed fun!
What can you expect to see on the day? We're so glad you asked! Lancaster Festa Italia is set to showcase 'all things Italian', from 12pm- 8pm, with street food, Italian music, dancing, children's workshops and even an Italian vehicle or two!
There will be a range of stalls for you to sample and buy products from including pizza, pasta, flatbreads, Italian wines, sweet treats and Italian fudge! Bar sponsors Peroni will also be present and bringing with them their pop-up bar, serving their delicious and famous lager! Perfect if you fancy a little tipple on a Sunday afternoon!
Lancaster Festa Italia will showcase a range of entertainment. You'll be able to watch Voce, The Luca Brasi Four and Atomic Brass on the Melodrome Stage in Market Square. This entertainment will be complemented by Italian dancing from Turning Point and the fantastic Hetty and The Jazzato Band will be performing on the Plinth.
There will also be lots of roaming street entertainment for you to enjoy, including the opera gondola, two fantastico singing waiters and drumming band Samba Espirito. You can even take part in Casa Rastelli's 'Cake Quiz' where you will need to match 10 Italian cake names to the English translation to win a chocolate cannoli prize! Sounds delicious right?
For you motor enthusiasts, the Festa will also be welcoming both the Ducati and Ferrari owners clubs! You'll be able to see a range of Ferraris on display on New Street form 12pm-4pm and Ducati bikes on Church Street from 2pm. New Facebook profile picture anyone?
Families with children certainly won't be bored at this event, with puppet shows and circus skills workshops, as well as an Italian Trail around Lancaster Museum and a 'make your own gondola' at The Maritime Museum, there surely is something for everyone. There will also be face-painting and temporary tattoos available and Pebble Art will also be in attendance. You can join the Lancaster Pebble People to design your own Italian inspired pebble, and then hide it in the city centre!
And of course you'll have your final chance to take part in the 'Bring On The Brollies' trail. This trail, first launched by Lancaster BID at the beginning of the Summer Holidays, guides participants around Lancaster, counting the number of brollies they can find. Each time you find a 'Brolly Bonus' sticker, you can go in the business and claim your treat. Lucky hunters have already claimed an array of treats including chocolate, magazines, pens, lollies and even a whistle! This trail was developed as part of the promotion for Lancaster Festa Italia, and links with the beautiful umbrella canopy positioned above New Street, which will be in situ until the 2nd and 3rd November, where it will be incorporated as part of Light Up Lancaster.
What is the perfect way to finish your Italian day? By indulging yourself more in Italian culture of course! You can round-up your fabulous day of Italian fun by watching a screening of the Italian Classic 'Cinema Paradiso' at The Dukes Theatre or listening to some splendid opera at 'Scenes and Arias from Italian Opera' at the Shire Hall of Lancaster Castle! We think it's the perfect way to finish off your Italian adventure!
Lancaster BID Manager Rachael Wilkinson said: "We are so excited for Lancaster Festa Italia. This will be one of the biggest events that we have undertaken, and we are thrilled with the response from businesses and residents so far. The idea of Lancaster Festa Italia initially came from two local businesses and has been widely supported by further businesses since. We work hard to ensure that we are engaging with our Levy Payers to help their visions become a reality. The increased footfall that events like Lancaster Festa Italia bring to the city centre really help businesses to capitalise on the influx of new and returning customers, as well as establishing Lancaster as THE place for innovative and cultural events. We hope we see you on the 9th!"
Lancaster BID would like to thank the sponsors and contributors of Lancaster Festa Italia for making this event possible, with thanks to Lancaster City Council, JOSEPH+CO, Holdens Solicitors, Peroni, The Italian Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster Guardian, Printing.com Lancaster and Signs Express, Lancaster.
