Lancaster Comedy & Arts Weekend Evaluation
17th June 2015
In the late May Bank Holiday the Lancaster Comedy & Arts weekend took place throughout venues in Lancaster city centre. Lancaster Comedy & Arts Weekend, organised by Lancaster BID, had over 50 local, talented artists who showcased their work around the city; as well as running fun and interactive workshops over the weekend including the unique and vastly popular 'splodge-a-matic' spin painting machine! The weekend also showcased 11 talented comedians, with family-friendly comedy running during the day.Visitors to Lancaster who took part in the Arts Trail were entered in a prize draw to win one of three arts prize hampers each worth over £150! There were more than 100 completed trails entered and the lucky prize winners were announced on Social Media earlier this week. The Lancaster Comedy & Arts Weekend, featured on Radio Lancashire and BBC Radio 2, brought a large variety of tourists to Lancaster city centre with people travelling from Leeds, Burnley, Birmingham, Barrow-in-Furness, Wakefield, Grange over Sands to name a few.
Lancaster BID worked together with a range of local business in the BID zone as host venues including; The Borough, Bar 1725, Fig Tree, Lancaster Library, Lancaster Museum, St. Nicholas Arcades and Marketgate shopping centre. Lancaster City Museum reported high footfall over the three days with an additional 80-100 people through the door on each day. The BID also produced a brochure which featured a selection of the local art, craft and gallery stores in Lancaster to help promote Lancaster as a city of art.
Lancaster Comedy & Arts Weekend is the third successful event that the BID have produced this year, after the popular Lancaster BID Treasure Trail over February half term, and the successful Skate Ramp event during the Easter school holidays, which was held at Lancaster Castle. Lancaster BID are planning on re-launching the popular BID Treasure Trail over the summer and are already in preparations for the Christmas Lights Switch On event which will take place on Sunday 22nd November featuring the popular Christmas reindeer and Santa Claus!
