Lancaster BHS Store Set To Close

29th July 2016

Just eight days remain for the Lancaster BHS store. BHS Lancaster, located on Market Street will shut its doors on 6th August 2016, following the collapse of the company. Final reductions are in place as the shop prepares for it's closure.

The store is one of hundreds across the country making closure preparations after it went into administration in April with debts of £1.3 billion.Closures have been slowly rolled out across the UK once a buyer could not be found at the beginning of the month.

On July 2, administrator Duff & Phelps said that attempts to find a buyer had failed and it would therefore begin to wind the company down putting 11,000 jobs at risk and leaving a £571 million pensions black hole.

Previous owner, Sir Philip Green, sold the firm for £1 in 2015 and apologised to BHS staff, saying that no one is sadder than him over the retailer's demise. The Topshop billionaire, could face losing his knighthood after facing MPs from the Work and Pensions committees who are investigating the firm's failure.
