The Judges Lodgings makes a significant contribution to Lancaster’s historic past and towards its compelling future as a fantastic Heritage City.
Built in the centre of Lancaster against the backdrop of Lancaster Castle and Lancaster Priory this elegant, Grade 1 building was home to Thomas Covell, Keeper of Lancaster Castle and notorious witch hunter. Between 1776 and 1975 the house became an impressive residence for judges visiting the Assize Court at the Castle.
Today there is something for everyone with beautiful period rooms, gorgeous Gillows furniture, a Victorian schoolroom and the Museum of Childhood.
Holdens has been part of the legal community for 170 years and recognises very closely from its office on Castle Hill the fascinating past of this historic quarter and the interconnection with Lancaster Castle where justice was discharged and administered in so many notable ways.
