HMV Confirm A Return To Lancaster

5th May 2017

Entertainment retailer HMV has officially confirmed that it is set to return to Lancaster after a four year absence.

The company has been absent from the city since 2013 when it closed its shop outside Marketgate shopping centre.

But the retailer has confirmed it is now planning for its return.

HMV's events and PR planner Laura Thomas told The Bay: "I am happy to confirm that we have secured a site for the city's new HMV store. We are delighted that the people of Lancaster will soon have access to the very best film, music, games, technology and merchandise right on their doorstep."

The exact location of the shop is yet to be confirmed. The firm is now working on a timetable in preparation for its reopening.

Lancaster Business Improvement District (BID) Manager Rachael Wilkinson said: "It is fantastic news that HMV is returning to Lancaster city centre. The store has been missed since it closed its doors in 2013. As a city centre which celebrates music and entertainment on an impressive scale, Lancaster is the perfect location for a HMV store. "HMV will undoubtedly complement the mix of stores already operating in the city centre and will be a welcome return to the business community and shoppers alike."

Chief executive of Lancaster City Council Susan Parsonage said: "With the future of Lancaster looking bright as a great place to visit, work, live, study and do business, the opening of any national retailer in Lancaster is always very much welcomed and a sure sign of confidence in the city as a destination. Not only do well known high street retailers enhance the vibrancy of the city's offer and help to generate significant shopper footfall into the city centre but they also have a positive effect on other businesses in the locality too as well as create jobs for local people."
