Great British High Street 2018

9th August 2018

The hunt is on to find the winner of the Great British High Street Awards 2018.

The Great British High Street (GBHS) Awards are an exciting opportunity for councils, businesses, community groups and volunteers to learn from the leading examples of the ways in which high streets are succeeding in overcoming the challenges of a rapidly changing environment.

Lancaster BID is proud to be nominating Lancaster for the awards this year and is asking local businesses to get behind us to promote our wonderful historic city.

The competition is sponsored by Visa who are running a 'Spend and Win' promotion throughout August. Customers spending more than £10 on their Visa card can enter a free prize draw. Lucky winners receive £100 to spend on their local High Street. Businesses taking part can also be winners - if the winning purchase is made in your store you also receive a prize of £250.

Promotional materials are available from the BID office for any independent business accepting Visa payments in the city centre. To request your pack phone the BID team as soon as possible on 01524 590650.

Shortlisting for the Great British High Street Awards will take place in September with finalists selected in each of the four UK nations - England, Scotland, Wales and, for the first time, Northern Ireland - across two categories: Champion High Street and Rising Star High Street.

The Champion High Street category will recognise the nation's best high streets whilst the Rising Star High Street category, sponsored by SumUp, will recognise the nation's most ambitious high streets, which are taking the lead and working together to revive, adapt and diversify.

An overall High Street of the Year in Great Britain and Northern Ireland will also be named and awarded a cash prize of £10,000.

Let's all get behind Lancaster to give the best chance of winning!
