Footfall Increases Again

5th July 2018

The soaring temperatures for the last few weeks have really helped to bring more people out onto the city streets.

Our footfall monitoring cameras on Penny Street and Market Street highlight that footfall has increased from last year for a second month in a row. Although the 0.2% increase is small, it goes against the national trend of falling High Street footfall and really demonstrates the confidence that people have in Lancaster city centre.

It is also noticeable that there are more people out and about in the city centre throughout the evenings and late night. Footfall after 9.00pm has increased for the eighth month in a row showing that the use of the city centre is extending beyond the traditional business hours.

Although footfall impressions do not necessarily guarantee increased sales, the increase in visitor numbers to the city centre highlights the opportunities available to businesses operating in the city centre.

The number of new businesses opening their doors in recent months is further evidence of business confidence in Lancaster city centre. Recently opened businesses include Dam Good Coffee Shop, Patisserie Valerie, The Herbarium and The Fragrance Shop. More openings are also coming soon including Kaspa's Dessert House and a new Indian Delicatessen.
