Dino Day 2019

6th June 2019

Another ROARsome Event with Dino Day

Thousands flocked to Lancaster city centre on Friday 31st May to enjoy an action-packed half-term event. Dino-Day returned to Lancaster city centre after its enROARmous success in the previous 2 years attracting visitors from across The Bay and beyond, including visitors from Blackpool, Morecambe, Preston, Leyland, Lancaster and Barrow.

The event included appearances from life-like Rex the T-Rex and Reg the Raptor and for the first time this year we had the largest walking Dino in the UK Al the Allosaurus as well as animatronic Percy the Parasolophus and lots of baby dinosaurs.

The event saw a 34% increase in footfall compared to the previous Friday, with many businesses reporting a busy trading day. There was also a 3.5% increase on the footfall for the event compared to last year's event and those visitors that completed our Dino trail have said on average they spent £30+ on the day. Events such as Dino-Day and Festa Italia, which will take place in September, help increase footfall in the city centre, so that businesses can capitalise on the influx of people into the city centre.

Sarah, Manager at Bella Italia said "Dino Day was another extremely busy day for us this year, with 18% growth from last year and everybody had an amazing day we were still speaking about it with guests over the weekend who all seemed to agree that the main talking point/buzz from the day was the addition of Allosaurus in Dalton Square."

Lynda Jackson Manager at Judges Lodgings said: "The Judges' Lodgings Museum had a fantastic Dino Day with over 800 visitors and nearly three week's average takings in one day. This was undoubtedly the museum's busiest day since we have re-opened and we'd love to work with BID again. We welcomed so many families including many who hadn't visited in a while and we're already planning for next year!"

Dino-Day 2019 was supported by The Entertainer Lancaster, The Cumberland, The Borough, Infinity Pre-School and Lancaster Guardian. Lancaster BID also teamed with St. Nics Shopping Centre, MarketGate Shopping Centre, Lancaster Museum, Judges Lodgings, Lancaster Library, The Dukes Theatre and The Maritime Museum to deliver Dino-Day.
